HALLOWEEN

HALLOWEEN

Halloween is celebrated on 31st October in many countries. Although it is mainly celebrated in the U.S.A., Portugal also celebrates this date, especially in schools.  In our school, the 9th grade classes organized a costume contest and the Professional Course of Tourism built a spooky house, which was visited by everyone! There was also a "Hocus Pocus"contest, in which students had to make witch hats, magic wands and brooms with recycled material.

ALL SAINTS' DAY IN PORTUGAL

ALL SAINTS' DAY IN PORTUGAL

In Portugal, we celebrate All Saints' Day on 1st November. In the morning, children go from door to door asking for sweets, carrying big bags in their hands. They knock on the doors or ring the bells and shout: “Bolinhos, bolinhos, à porta dos santinhos”, which means “Cakes, cakes at the saints’ door”. People usually organize small bags with treats which they give out to children.
On this day, people remember all their loved ones who aren't here anymore and they go to the cemitery to honour them.
