Gandia's most important festival: FIRA I FESTES

GANDIA'S MOST IMPORTANT FESTIVAL:                                                     "FIRA I FESTES"

The most important festivities in Gandia are celebrated  from the last Friday of September  to the following  Monday.

During these days of celebration, we can find a lot of different activities.
There is a Medieval market, a lot of concerts, street actors and a big fair of attractions.
The beggining and the end of the celebration is marked by wonderfrul fireworks.

  “EL TÍO DE LA PORRA”

EL TÍO DE LA PORRA” is a typical character from the city of Gandia, responsible for announcing every year to the entire city, and especially schoolchildren, the beginning of the festivities. On the first day of our festivals,  EL TÍO DE LA PORRA visits schools with drums and invites children to leave schools and start the festival.

This character enjoys a great popular affection since, year after year, he fills the citizens with excitement.  EL TÍO DE LA PORRA is an important tradition in our city and it has existed for more than 100 years.

First of all there are wooden games like: puzzles, knock down things like bowling, chips and other things for people of all ages to fun...These games are distributed in different places in the city center, so that you are where you can play.

There are also different plays of different themes such as: happiness, a circus, a bar,
even a neighborhood in a small town.

Many of them are very funny, although others make you think.
Last but not least, shows like the circus of Fele or the "correfocs" are very good to enjoy with family or friends, as you spend a very nice time.
During the nights a lot of street actors are doing fire juggles on the main streets.
The last day there is a big "mascletà" which marks the end of the celebration.

My favourite part of these days is the enormous fair of attractions. I visite it almost every day with my classmates and friends.

It's especially beautiful at night.
