Bóg się rodzi - the Nativity Play

Bóg się rodzi - the Nativity Play

Maja, class VI "A report of the Nativity Play":

The Nativity Play at our school took place on 18th December 2019 and it was staged by class "0" , five-year-olds and the kindergarten.  The performance started with a carol "The silence of the night". Then the children in their poems told the guests about the path of Joseph and Mary. Then some girls dressed up as angels entered the stage and woke up shepherds with a carol "Let's all go to the stable". Next, the shepherds sang a carol "The shepherds came to Bethlehem" and gave Jesus their gifts. When the Three Kings arrived, they offered myrrh, incense and gold. Mary and Joseph thanked the newcomers for the gifts. The ceremony ended with a carol "Silent Night".
I like these performances very much and I think they are needed.

Małgosia, class VII:
On the 19th December 2019, at 11:00 am.  the Nativity Play was performed by students form classes IV-VIII. The performance presented how people celebrate Christmas. It showed that generally people don't understand the meaning of Christmas Eve.

There was a family who lived in Poland. They were preparing for Christmas Eve. A daughter, dad and mum sat at the table. The daughter was unpacking presents, they were eating traditional dishes. They weren't saying anything or laughing.

There is a custom that during the solemn Christmas Eve supper one spare place  at the table is left for an unexpected guest. But for the parents it was only a meaningless tradition, so when a homeless man knocked at their door, they didn't let him in.
A moment later an ambulance arrived and the doctor informed the family that he wanted to call the police, because they didn't help the man and he has nearly frozen to death.

Finally, the parents undrestood  the real meaning of Christmas and made up for their mistake.

It was an excellent performance and it was rewarded with great applause by our school community and the invited guests.

Łukasz, class VII

On December 19, 2019, the Nativity Play took place at Kornel Makuszyński's school. The nativity scenes were not typical because they were not exactly nativity scenes etc. When all the guests arrived, the ceremony began. The head of the school announced the ceremony.

It started when  the family began to prepare the Christmas table. When Christmas Eve came, the family sat down at the table. Suddenly the doorbell rang, the housekeeper opened the door and announced that there was a homeless man. The parents ordered to keep him outy even though they had a free place for a wanderer.

The performance also featured a donkey with whom the daughter talked. After breaking the wafers, the family heard an ambulance signal and a moment later a doctor at the door the door. The doctor said that the person they did not want to receive almost died not far away from their home.
At the end of the performance all the actors came to the stage.

January the 6th in FRANCE

French people celebrate the ephipahny, they eat a special dessert called French Kings cake. French people to celebrate the Epiphany, the arrival of the Three Wise men (Magi). Every year, on January 6th, people gather pour tirer les rois, to find the kings. The traditional galette is cut in a very specific number of slices: one slice for each person sitting at the table plus one. The extra slice is symbolic for the first poor person passing by.

The youngest person in the room goes under the table, and announces who gets the next slice. The youngest person is said to be the most innocent one and therefore fair in the distribution of the slices. Such an importance is given to the distribution because of the lucky charm, la fève, hidden in the galette.

St. Nicholas Day

St. Nicholas Day

St. Nicholas Day is celebrated on the 6th of December.
This day celebrates the 4th-century saint who sold all that he had and gave the money to the poor.
The 6th of December was the day of his death.

St. Nicholas Day includes a tradition of leaving gifts in the shoes or stockings. Children leaves their shoes in the evening because they hope to find a small treat in them in the morning.
People usually exchange small gifts like sweets or small toys with their friends and families.

Children like this day because they can get some presents. In Poland naughty children get a stick instead of a nice gift.
At schools there are often different activities such as gift-giving or feasts.
